Pong while a crude simulation of table tennis, was predated by an even older game titled Tennis for Two. back then players could only dream about the variety of sports video games available today at Y8.
Sport Games Origins
In 1958, Tennis for Two was created by William Higinbotham, an American physicist. Amazingly, the game was played on an oscilloscope, an electronic instrument used to display electrical signal voltages in 2D. While discovered later, it is believed Tennis for Two was the first video game. It similar to Pong, except it uses a side view, instead of the top view Pong went with.
In 1967, Taito produced Crown Soccer Special, a coin-operated Pinball. This game represented a head-to-head competition between two players.
1973 was rich in new releases: Davis Cup, Soccer and Pro Hockey.
