Yahoo! is An American company that owns a previously renowned search system that grew in the early days of the internet to include many non-search related services. One such service was yahoo email or Yahoo! Mail, it is one of the oldest and most popular email services on the Internet. The yahoo.com website was created in 1994 by David Philo and Jerry Young. At first, the site was called Jerry and David's guide to the World Wide Web. Back then the site was a catalog of other websites and did not offer unique content yet. After a few months of growth, the website was renamed to Yahoo!

In 1998, Yahoo! launched a game service called Yahoo! Games. The website itself was created in 1996 and called ClassicGames.com. The company was acquired by Yahoo! during its rapid growth following the dot com internet boom in 1999. The Yahoo website became a one-stop-shop for all things internet related. You could find many genres of Java games and Flash games. Some required installation while others were playable online. In total, Yahoo! Games once featured a catalog of games with more than 1400 game titles. Another old yet popular feature was the Yahoo! Messenger program that allowed text chat similar to AOL. In 2014, the games section of the Yahoo website was closed. However, some games and services could still be found such as Yahoo! Games Japan.
